Workshop Outline
Welcome to our comprehensive Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture Workshop, your gateway to unlocking the full potential of Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture with Dr Emily Teo.
Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA) is an acupuncture microsystem developed in 1973 by Dr. Toshikatsu Yamamoto. This innovative approach harnesses anatomical and channel somatotopes to modulate biologically-mediated signaling. It offers a targeted solution for addressing neurological disorders, and is a world-renowned acupuncture system for providing both symptomatic relief and root treatment effects to individuals with restricted mobility. Explore this groundbreaking system that paves the way for holistic well-being
Building a Strong Foundation Begin the YNSA journey by delving into the essential fundamentals and concepts that will solidify diagnosis, mechanism, regions and point locations.
YNSA Basic Points
Diagnostic Techniques
Formulating Treatment Protocol
This might be a new language for some newcomers and familiar terminology for those wanting to further consolidate their understanding of the system.
Learn crucial diagnostic techniques, including the areas/points of elbow, neck, abdominal and Hegu assessments. Emily will offer only the best clinical pearls within the course to make it easy and clear for all participants. Learn all the point locations and the full system from the leading expert in the field.
Advancing Your Skills with Extra Points Elevate your YNSA understanding and application further as you explore advanced techniques and extra points in this fascinating Scalp Acupuncture System. This day will encompass the topics of:
Extra Points:
Case Study: Defining the application of YNSA in neuro MSK problems.
Throughout this course, you will not only become well-versed in YNSA but also gain the knowledge and experience required to seamlessly integrate these techniques into your acupuncture practice. Join us on this exciting journey as you work towards upskilling and becoming an expert of a system and technique that doesn’t take years to learn. This is because the effect of each point is easy to understand as the needle is inserted into the point connected to the site of the symptom cause (the location projected on the head).
To enable fast learning and implementation, the technique has been systemised and you will be able to take away another technique which produces oft-times miraculous results.
Dr Emily Teo graduated in medicine from the University of New South Wales in 1970. She started studying acupuncture in 1987, and in 1993 obtained her Fellowship from the Australian Medical Acupuncture College. In 2002, she obtained her Master in Applied Science, majoring in Acupuncture. Throughout her career, she has been deeply involved in acupuncture education, as lecturer, tutor, mentor and examiner.
YNSA started as a chance encounter with Dr Toshikatsu Yamamoto in Vienna in 2000 and since then became a direct disciple for over 23 years with Dr Yamamoto along with being a close friend.
In 2004, Dr Teo, as Chair of Education, AMAC, invited Dr Yamamoto to run the first YNSA workshop in Australia, at the ICMART Congress in Sydney Australia. Dr Yamamoto has over the years conducted six workshops in Sydney, Perth, and in 2017, a workshop in Brisbane. Dr Teo has also conducted a series of YNSA workshops in Australia across several states and has mentored students from these courses. More recently, she has also conducted YNSA workshops overseas.
Dr Emily Teo runs a full time acupuncture practice in Australia, with YNSA as the main technique offered. To keep up to date with the latest developments in YNSA, Dr Teo attends yearly workshops conducted by Dr Yamamoto in Miyazaki, Japan.
Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA), is a sub-specialty of acupuncture treatment that was developed since the 1970’s by a Japanese physician Dr Toshikatsu Yamamoto. While it is a relatively late arrival into the repertoire of TCM acupuncture in Australia it has been well received in the U.S.A. and Europe over the past several decades.
The clinical efficacy of YNSA is particularly apparent in treating musculo-skeletal problems and injuries. Notably the patient can provide immediate feedback in the course of the treatment enabling you to modify your technique if required, to achieve better results. As a considerable proportion of patients are seeking treatment for painful conditions of various kinds, YNSA provides a direct pathway to successful outcomes.
However the range of applications goes well beyond this, being applicable to complex neurological conditions such as peripheral neuropathy, Parkinson’s syndrome and stroke recovery. It is also particularly useful in an aging population to minimise the risk of falling.
A sound understanding of the basics is essential, and requires a degree of application and commitment. However the theoretical basis of the system is relatively straightforward.
The basics points (A to I) cover the musculoskeletal system and their associated nerves. With these, most relatively straight-forward cases can be treated successfully. The sensory points treat all reversible conditions associated with the sensory organs. The brain, cranial nerve and Ypsilon points open the door to treating neurological and visceral conditions.
The application of the technique is straight-forward, well tolerated, comfortable and not demanding on the patient.
In brief, YNSA is a truly innovative sub-specialty in acupuncture admirably suited to obtaining impressive clinical results for your patients in sometimes complex conditions.
The text ‘Defining the Application of YNSA’ is recommended as preparatory background to the course and is available from China Books.
I would recommend those learning YNSA for the first time that you commit the following to memory before the seminar.
