Description

Essentials of Saam Acupuncture presents, for the first time in English, a complete and scholarly translation of the foundational texts of one of East Asian medicine’s most powerful yet historically elusive traditions. Rooted in the teachings of the semi-mythical Korean monk Saam and expanded through the clinical case records of Jisan, both written sometime between 1644-1742, this volume opens a direct window into the origins of a system that has endured for centuries while remaining largely hidden outside Korea.

At a time when modern acupuncture often departs from its classical roots, Saam acupuncture stands apart: defined by its precision, minimalism, and unwavering adherence to the fundamental principles of yīn-yáng, the six qì, and the five phases. With as few as four needles, it offers a method of diagnosis and treatment that is both deeply systematic and remarkably effective.

This volume not only restores the original voice of Saam’s poetic cosmology but also brings to life Jisan’s 124 clinical case studies, revealing the real-world application of these principles across a wide range of conditions. Together, they form the intellectual and clinical foundation of a tradition that has influenced modern acupuncture systems across East Asia and is now gaining rapid attention in the West.

More than a translation, this work is an essential resource for practitioners seeking to engage acupuncture at its deepest level: where diagnosis returns to first principles, and treatment emerges from the dynamic balance of the body itself. Whether you are a seasoned clinician or a dedicated student, Essentials of Saam Acupuncture invites you to rediscover the power of simplicity, clarity, and classical insight.
