Autoimmune (AI) diseases are difficult to diagnose as many presenting symptoms are inconclusive and often attributed to other conditions. Misdiagnosis is common. The second issue is the multiple etiologies associated with AI diseases. While many persist in believing that AI diseases are purely genetic, this is wrong. While there is a genetic component, AI diseases are diseases of lifestyle or the mismanagement of a number of factors. Lastly, many AI patients have several other AI diseases and/or comorbidities.
