Sleep is a necessity in life, yet sleep disturbances, in particular insomnia, have been steadily increasing worldwide, affecting almost 40% of the population and disturbingly a large proportion of children, due primarily to our modern lifestyle.

This webinar will examine the Western and Chinese concepts about sleep. The Chinese energetics and in particular the role of the internal synchronizers, the “Extraordinary” vessels will be emphasized, as well as the diagnosis and treatment protocols for insomnia and other sleep disorders.

 

Content and Course Objectives:

The main objective of this webinar is to propose a different approach in the diagnosis of insomnia and to tailor the treatment to each type of insomnia pattern, rather than applying a standardized symptomatic point combination.

    • Discuss in detail the diagnostic strategies and the most common disharmony patterns;
    • Proposal of Acupuncture treatment strategies: calming the mind; regulating the movements of Wei Qi; releasing retained emotions; harmonizing the internal synchronizers;
    • Adapt treatments to insomnia patterns;
    • Overview of the primary acupuncture points for insomnia and the Zang-Fu disharmony patterns.

Biography

Dr. Hamid David Montakab M.D. graduated from Medical School of Paris, did his residency in surgery and completed a 3-year education in acupuncture. Later spending 4 months in clinical training in China, followed by 2 years in exploring the local healing in the Philippines and India. He practiced for 5 years in America after obtaining the NCCA certification and a degree in Chinese Herbalism. In 1986 he founded the Academy of Chinese Healing Arts in Switzerland.

Dr. Montakab was commissioned by the Swiss National Fond to conduct a scientific research study on Acupuncture and Insomnia. In 1995 he was the co-founder and president of the Swiss Professional Organization for TCM (SPO-TCM). Currently he practices in Savièse and lectures in Winterthur and other European countries.
