This course provides information on the Saam Korean monastic acupuncture tradition from a theoretical, historical, and practical perspective. Special attention is given to this system’s implementation into a successful East Asian Medicine (EAM) clinical practice.

Extraordinary Vessels are the unconscious blueprint (Yuan Qi) from which the destiny is acted out through the consciousness (Ying Qi) of the Primary Channels. Using these vessels in treatment offers the possibility of profound personal transformation.

Luo Vessels are repositories for unprocessed or overwhelming emotions imprinted on the blood. In this way, chronic, traumatic, or repetitive emotional injuries are stored outside of the primary channels (i.e. consciousness) until the body is ready to process and release the emotion. Thus the Luo vessels are considered essential in the treatment of mental health issues.

Practitioner issues include low confidence, patient safety concerns, scope of practice, complications during birth, as well as a general lack of awareness just how helpful acupuncture and the many other techniques of East Asian Medicine (EAM) can be throughout the entire perinatal period.

This workshop presents hands-on bodywork practice and patient handouts to support the fullspectrum of pregnancy, birth and postnatal care, including but by not limited to acupuncture.

This series of talks will look at some of the most important Chinese herbal formulas, and examine the big ideas behind their intent, construction and use.
