A condition that is treated with acupuncture extensively in China, but not so much in western clinics, is stroke recovery. Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability in Australia and this year we will have 470,000 people living with the after-effects of stroke (predicted to continue to rise). In America, it is the 3rd leading cause of death and the leading cause of chronic disability. For acupuncture to be more recognised and accepted as an effective treatment method in westernised healthcare, we must have a firm grasp on treatments that can help these patients.

Like most acupuncturists, you probably think of scalp acupuncture when you think of stroke treatment. Right? Well, did you know that abdominal acupuncture is also another excellent system for this? According to Dave Shipsey, more hospitals in China are now using abdominal acupuncture for stroke recovery over other systems.
