But that is only half of what defines the length of our individual lives. It is also necessary to take into account individual lifestyle choices\, habits\, and environmental factors that influence our post-natal jing or essence. These impacts speedup or slowdown\, increase or decrease our wakeful years. \nThe Difficult Issues (Nan Jing)\, a classical Chinese medicine text\, provides an essential clue to longevity and explains how external and internal factors affect our kidneys and influence lifespan. It explains how if health is not properly maintained that the kidney will be cut off from receiving and exchanging qi from the other zangfu organs\, leading to its depletion. This decline leads to inevitable yin-yang disruption\, directly affects the flow of qi and blood\, and the eventual weakening of the zangfu organs and their ability to generate qi to support our body. \nOur lecture highlights key patho-mechanisms set into motion by this kidney disconnection and the foreseeable impact on the aging process. Geriatrics is its own separate category and specialty focused on retirement and elderly aged people. It is particularly effective for disruption of the Liver Spleen axis\, and for gently corrective all the various and multitudinous ramifications of Liver Spleen disharmony. In this talk we look at the central role of the Liver Spleen axis in maintenance of the daily harvesting and distribution of functional qi and blood\, and how Xiao Yao San and its relatives perform their crucial restorative function. \nXue Fu Zhu Yu Tang\nA solid understanding of the pathology and scope of blood stasis is crucial to success in many acute\, and most chronic\, disorders. In this talk we will look at the various grades of blood stasis from subtle to gross\, how to recognise them\, and how to address them at the correct level. Originally developed to deal with shao yang syndrome\, the post acute phase of an external invasion\, its use has expanded substantially over the intervening centuries and is a ‘go-to’ formula for many conditions beyond its orginal purpose. Why\, and on what basis\, has this occured? We will look at the reasons for this expansion and look at the structure of the formula and its relatives in the harmonising family. \nBan Xia Xie Xin Tang\nA strikingly effective formula for a variety of common digestive complaints\, Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang works its magic primarily by stimulating and driving th emiddle burner qi dynamic. He began studying Chinese medicine in 1997 with Sunim Doam\, a Korean monk trained in the Saam tradition. He earned his master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2002 upon completion of training at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco and Chengdu University in China. \nDuring his four years of training in San Francisco\, he interned with the prominent acupuncturist Dr. Angela Wu and learned to apply the lofty theories he was studying in school into the pragmatic setting of a busy clinic. In 2013\, he developed the Chinese Nutrtional Strategies app to provide digital access to the wealth of Chinese dietary wisdom.
