SUMMARY:Nurturing Life by Venerating the Root: Classical Chinese Medicine and its Contemporary Applications in Reproductive Care SYDNEY - Sabine Wilms and Debra Betts
DESCRIPTION:This 3 day seminar with Dr. Sabine Wilms and Dr. Debra Betts is a fantastic opportunity to learn from leading experts in their respective fields of Classical Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in Reproductive Care. \nSabine and Debra have been working on this project for many years and we are excited to host this long awaited seminar with this amazing renowned duo. \nDay 1: Nurturing Life: Classical Chinese Medicine and Yangsheng in Reproduction\nThis day will be an introduction to the world of classical Chinese medicine\, especially as it applies to fertility and reproductive medicine. Sabine will encourage participants to rethink the practice of Chinese Medicine to go beyond treating the disease\, with the ultimate goal of harmonising Heaven and Earth. She will focus on the yangsheng (nurturing life) and expand on Sun Simiao’s advice to “venerate the root” by starting with the health of women and newborns\, and explore how this notion of “nurturing life” can be applied concretely in the context of reproductive medicine\, especially in the preparation for pregnancy. \nDay 2: Nurturing the Fetus: The Ten Months of Pregnancy from Early China to Today\nTogether\, Sabine and Debra will explore the physiology of pregnancy\, development of the fetus\, detailed and specific information on nurturing the fetus and the mother for each of the ten months of pregnancy from the perspectives of state-of-the-art bio-medicine and classical Chinese medicine. They will discuss specific treatment protocols for each month of pregnancy with the least invasive tools possible\, including diet\, behavioral changes\, and acupuncture and moxibustion (and a brief excursion into medicinal formulas). \nDay 3: Classical and Contemporary Insights into Birth\, Postpartum Care\, Neonatal Development and the Ethics of Reproduction\nThe final day will explore birth\, postpartum care and the ethics of treating in pregnancy. Sabine and Debra will discuss the physiology of birth and the postpartum period and specific needs of the mother. And also the importance of teaching pregnant and postpartum patients about self-care and empowering them in the process to assume a more active role in their own healthcare. They will also cover the ethical considerations in pregnancy from a historical perspective through to today’s practice for practitioners in Australia. \n19.5 CPD Points \nFor more information\, please see the flyer here

SUMMARY:Introduction to Feng Shui - Lizette Akouri
DESCRIPTION:Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese Art of working with the environment and energies of a property so that they can be optimised for wealth\, health and harmonious relationships. It is used all over the world by people who seek to improve their circumstances. \nBy using Feng Shui methods we can align the energies to the Heaven\, Earth\, and your personal energy and create balance. These energies has the potential to improve wealth\, health and relationships and deplete the negative influences. \nHeaven energies are influences from the Solar Planetary system; Earth energies are influences from the land\, buildings and roads around the building as well as the directional energies; Man’s energies come from their date and hour of birth. All these energies interact once they come together and sometimes they are harmonious and sometimes they are in conflict. By aligning all the 3 energies there is potential to change a negative to a more positive luck. \nThis ancient Art of placement is based on the theories of Yin and Yang\, Yin meaning inactivity and Yang activity\, and the balance of the Five Elements of Earth\, Metal\, Water\, Wood and Fire. \nTo create balance and harmony natural resources from these five elements are used.\n \nWhat You Will Learn\nDAY 1:\n– What is and what is not Feng Shui\n– The Five Arts of Chinese Metaphysics\n– Feng Shui Fundamentals\n– How to visually assess a site whether it may or may not have auspicious energies before the formulas are plotted\n– How to do a basic assessment with Bazhai \nDAY 2:\n– Learn about the Trigrams\n– Learn about the Early and Later Heaven Bagua\n– Learn how to take a compass readin\n– Learn basic Flying Stars\n– Learn how to plot a Flying Stars chart\n– Learn how to read a chart \nThis workshop will be tailored for Chinese Medicine Practitioners focusing on how practitioners can help inform and support their patients with the choices they are making. \n12 CPD Points \nView flyer here

SUMMARY:Maternity Acupuncture - Debra Betts
DESCRIPTION:Maternity Acupuncture: Clinical Realities – A workshop using case scenarios and facilitated group discussion: Credibility through Case Histories \nPresented by Debra Betts\nThis workshop will use case history scenarios to explore clinical practice within an environment of group discussions.  Several scenarios for each session will be used to illustrate the realities of clinical practice\, red flags that require attention and Chinese medicine considerations. \nParticipants will engage in problem solving within a small group and Debra will lead a feedback session\, followed by a PowerPoint presenting treatment recommendations. Treatment rationales and point suggestions will be provided for each scenario based on her clinical practice\, her work with acupuncture students and midwives. Rather than one correct treatment approach\, feedback from participants will illustrate a variety different approaches\, providing a rich learning environment for both those experienced and those seeking to expand their practice into pregnancy care \nSATURDAY: \n•Session one:  Nausea and Hyperemesis \n•Session two: Threatened miscarriage and bleeding in pregnancy \n•Session three:  Adverse outcomes including miscarriage\, foetal demise and stillbirth \n•Session four:  Uncomplicated first trimester pregnancies with a complicated pre pregnancy history; ART\, previous pregnancy complications\, recurrent miscarriage \nSUNDAY: \n•Session one:  Back pain in pregnancy the Cinderella of a pregnancy practice. Importance of promotion due to current physiotherapy and dry needling practices. \n•Session two: What separates birth preparation from induction of labour? \n•Session three:  Breech. SUMMARY:Neoclassical Pulse Diagnosis: Extraordinary Vessels & The Six Channels - Thomas Richardson
DESCRIPTION:Neoclassical Pulse Diagnosis is a powerful system of pulse diagnosis that is deeply rooted in the classics (especially the Mai Jing). \nThis system has also been called an ‘acupuncturist’s pulse diagnosis’\, as it can accurately diagnose channel imbalances.  Once proficient in this system\, the pulse can guide one immediately to a specific acupuncture point that will not only bring balance to the pulse\, but also instantly shift the patient’s experience – whether by decreasing pain\, increasing range of motion\, changing their internal state of consciousness\, or bringing about other noticeable shifts. \nPractitioners can spend a lifetime dedicated to the craft of pulse diagnosis. This workshop will teach you an easy to learn system that leads to a much more precise diagnosis with instant clinical results. \nNeoclassical Pulse Diagnosis is based on an understanding of complementary positions and spacial correlations of the individual pulse positions. It allows one to diagnosis channel involvements (Extraordinary Vessels\, 6-channel) as well as various temporal cycles (ying qi and wei qi cycles) and five-element imbalances. \nThis method was developed by Dr. William Morris and it is a systematic integration of classical anatomical approach to pulse taking along with channel-based methods of assessment. It is a system that is heavily influenced by the Ding Family system of pulse diagnosis. \n13 CPD Points
