SUMMARY:Big Formulas & The Big Ideas Behind Them - Session 1 - Will Maclean
DESCRIPTION:Register Now\nThis series of talks will look at some of the most important Chinese herbal formulas\, and examine the big ideas behind their intent\, construction and use. The big ideas underlie the fundamental physiological and pathological concepts of Chinese medicine\, and we will examine them in some detail\, from the starting point of a formula or formula family that represents and reflects the idea \nSession 1: 22nd March 2020\nXiao Chai Hu Tang\nXiao Chai Hu Tang is one of the foundation formulas of the Shang Han Lun\, and certainly one of the most widely used of all Chinese herbal prescriptions. Originally developed to deal with shao yang syndrome\, the post acute phase of an external invasion\, its use has expanded substantially over the intervening centuries and is a ‘go-to’ formula for many conditions beyond its orginal purpose. Why\, and on what basis\, has this occured? We will look at the reasons for this expansion and look at the structure of the formula and its relatives in the harmonising family. \nBan Xia Xie Xin Tang\nA strikingly effective formula for a variety of common digestive complaints\, Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang works its magic primarily by stimulating and driving th emiddle burner qi dynamic. In this talk we look at the qi dynamic and how central it is to the overall qi distribution of the body\, and how to use herbs to drive qi in specific directions with effects that are greater than the sum of their parts. \nDetails:\nDATE: 22nd March \nTIME: 10:00am – 3:00pm each session \nCPD: 4 CPD points per session \nCOST: \n\nStudent (full time undergraduate): $80\nPractitioner (association member): $150\n\nRegistrations cancelled up to 1 week prior to the seminar will be refunded less 20%. We regret that refunds are not otherwise possible \nAbout Will\nWill Maclean studied Chinese Medicine in Australia and China\, and has been practicing Chinese medicine for nearly 30 years. \nWill is the author of several texts\, including the Clinical Handbook of Internal Medicine series (three volumes\, with Jane Lyttleton)\, the Clinical Manual of Chinese Herbal Patent Medicines\, and Chinese Herbal Desk Reference. \nWill lectures worldwide and continues to be actively involved in the development and practice of Chinese Medicine \nRegister Now
