DESCRIPTION:Register Now\nDays 1 & 2 – Dermatology in Chinese Medicine\nSkin disorders in their various forms are amongst the most common diseases suffered by mankind\, accounting for no less than 20% of all visits to out-patient’s departments in the Western world. Despite this prevalence and the resources put into this field\, many patients are dissatisfied with the conventional treatments available to them\, and look elsewhere for solutions. \nChinese herbal medicine has a very real and enduring answer for a significant number of sufferers of many diseases of the skin. It can induce spectacular and lasting change in a whole range of intractable conditions such as eczema\, acne and psoriasis\, and yet due to a lack of specialist training and clinical experience\, numerous practitioners of Chinese medicine fail to achieve optimal results that are well within their grasp. \nIn this introductory two-day lecture\, the fundamental principles of treating the commonest skin diseases will be presented (Damp-Heat\, Blood-Heat\, Blood-Stasis\, and Qi\, Blood & Yin Xu) using many case examples with numerous photographic slides from Mazin’s own practice. Throughout the emphasis is put on practical and clinically relevant information\, which will serve as a foundation to enable doctors to understand the essential concepts required to construct effective formulae to suit the vagaries of clinical reality. \nThe workshop will commence with an overview of all the major primary and secondary lesions of the skin and their significance in Chinese medicine. The commonest diseases encountered in clinical practice will be introduced along with their major variants. Case examples will be given with before\, during and after pictures alongside the formulae that were used\, charting in great detail the approach that ultimately proved successful in leading the patient from acute phase to stable state. \nWhat You Will Learn\n\nMajor primary and secondary lesions of the skin and their significance in Chinese medicine\nThe Eight methods for Resolving Heat.\nMazin’s own classification of the primary protocols for treating Inflammatory Skin Disease.\nThe commonest diseases encountered in clinical practice will be introduced along with their major variants (including Plaque\, Pustular & Erythrodermic Psoriasis\, Atopic Eczema\, Pompholyx Eczema\, Nummular Eczema\, Seborrhoeic Dermatitis\, Lichen Simplex\, Lichen Planus\, Acne\, and Rosacea).\nNumerous in-depth case examples of these conditions will be given with before\, during and after pictures alongside the formulae that were used\, charting in great detail the approach that ultimately proved successful in leading the patient from acute phase to stable state.\n\nDay 3 – Ulcerative Colitis\nUlcerative colitis is a common\, chronic relapsing inflammatory disease of the colon and rectum characterized by abdominal pain\, tenesmus\, with accompanying diarrhoea mixed with blood\, mucus and pus. Traditional Chinese medicine has recognized this condition for millennia\, where it has been known by various names\, including Dysenteric disorder (lì jí 痢疾) and Zang toxin (zàng dú 藏毒). \nConventional medicine has relied on surgery\, as well as increasingly potent immunosuppressive pharmaceuticals\, and more recently biologics\, to control the aberrant immune system that is the root of this disorder. With all the associated shortcomings of these modes of therapy\, in Mazin’s 30 years of experience he has found Chinese herbal medicine offers a remarkably powerful and effective answer\, not only for the distressing acute flares that sufferers of this condition are susceptible to\, but to long-term management and stabilisation\, with prolonged remission a reality for the majority of patients. \nThis lecture will describe the common as well as rare manifestations of this disease\, and will discuss in great detail the effective approaches (internal medicine\, herbal enemas and suppositories) that are available to us for successfully treating all stages of this disorder.
